Useless things to know about this car:
- This car is based on 'Alfa Romeo Monza' and on 'Bugatti Type 59' (where it takes the name)
- I dedicate this car to YukesVonFaust who inspired me
I’ll spoil the whole thing by saying this, but whatever. I love this car. I love everything about it.
It looks like a proper 1930s sportscar. Model fits into the game perfectly, and the paintjob isn’t too loud or pretentious – on the contrary, it works itself into retro nature of the car. Colonel Moss, watch and learn. Only thing I’d change visually would be adding a frame to the widshield, so it pops out more, or replace it with racing style windscreens. It’s a small detail though, and what is there works great anyway.
Params don’t seem to be impressive at all – not filling even half of the bars in car selection. It’s all a smokescreen though, because as soon as it gets on track, B59 turns into a beast. Acceleration is appropriate for the style of the car, as well as its speed – meaning you’ll get acceptable amount of punch and a whopping 51kph. And yes, I said whopping, because maintaining it is a piece of cake. The thing drives masterfully, putting balloon tyres and soft, cushy suspension to good use on any surface. On tarmac it sticks and turns with just a touch of expectable understeer; on gravel it’s more snappy, but in a good way that helps with navigation; on slippery it loses some of the acceleration punch but keeps all the traction.
When it comes to combat, it’s even more brilliant. Its center of mass is era-appropriate – centered on the body, but kept in check. Such CoM coupled with high ground clearance and soft suspension can get you out of almost any trouble – barrel rolls and pirouettes usually land you back on wheels, and facing the correct direction.
Sadly, therein also lies one big flaw of B59 – it seems to be as fast as it can without sacrificing its characteristics. Beware of using batteries anywhere outside of long straights, and make sure you won’t need to correct course. At 60+ kph suspension will become deadly.
Pros:
– Visuals fit the game and style of the car
– Great params despite not looking like they’re so good
– Perfectly balanced suspension and power output, making the ride comfortable under any speeds and conditions
– Very versatile mechanically
– Almost invincible in combat
Cons:
– Only one paintjob included
– Doesn’t feel like there’s much more to squeeze out from it, would need a major retune to make it go faster
– Battery unfriendly to the point of deadliness
