It might be an ARM related project, but it doesn't involve Lo Scassatore's moniker :P
Trivia:
Gigi once tried to recreate (as CONTINUOUSLY requested by RobDin00, wink wink nudge nudge) the Dust Mite seen in the loading screen (see where LS comes from now?) using parts from the vanilla car and our Superfox 4WD replica (another ARM project), but it was just a bit more than a parts swap - so I offered my help. After some months, here it finally is again...
Features:
- Higher poly model built using subdivision surface + some manual modelling.
- Slightly higher detail on suspension and chassis bits - also shock towers and bumpers are now fully 3D, no pureblack trickery anywhere on the model.
- Remade, cleaner and textured studded tires using the Superfox 4WD ones as a guideline.
- Fully baked texture. No paintkit but super friendly mapping - it can somewhat be skinned. (Note that stock Mite skins will NOT work out of the box with it!)
- Slightly more competitive parameters with respect to stock Mite, more on par with the likes of RC Bandit.
I eventually plan on giving this car a couple playmates (i.e. Phat Slug and Col. Moss LS, as seen on the background of the loading screen), so stay tuned.
EDIT Sep 10, 2023: New inertia values and tweaked suspension for better landings on bumpy tracks.
Hello Burner94.
That makes sense. Yeah, I meant the sides and you explained it perfectly.
Thank you!
Hello MondeoBoi, as far as body collision is concerned, Dust Mite LS uses the exact same collision data (.hul file) as the original Dust Mite from the vanilla game.
If you mean the “side” collision (wheels against walls) it’s just a thing with RV’s physics – in the game, likely to save computational resources back in 1999, wheel collisions are treated as spheres, not cylinders (and that’s hardcoded behaviour), so naturally the collision is triggered “before” the wheels’ visual models reach the walls.
Thanks for your comment and your kind words :)
Hello.
The car feels amazing and I’m glad someone made Dust Mite the way it should’ve been from the start.
Also, just noticed(might only be on my side) that the hitbox of the car might be a bit bigger than the car itself? Is it possible or my game is pulling the funny on me?
This is nothing else than perfection. While driving this little fella for the first time I got this strange warm feeling somewhere close to my heart, which you don’t get that often. This version looks like Dust Mite always should have looked like. It does not have the typical stock Re-Volt style (there are all these nice little details – the wheels are awesome!), but in this case I don’t care at all. Beside the great optics I didn’t drove a car with a more realistic RC-car feeling in a long time. 5++.
Seems interesting, but it’s also got some real thicc wheels. I like it.
