This is Volt General’s first track. It was published in February of 2001. In the readme, he says he finds it fantastic, but I don’t like it a lot myself.
The track has a very short length, but this is deceptive: races aren’t that short, because the track is extremely cramped. There are no places where you can race full-throttle: you’ll be skidding around the entire track. The graphics are pretty good, but thematically, I doubt anyone would visit a botanical garden that looks like this. Why did they dump sand everywhere?!?
All the sand makes it very easy to cut corners, both intentionally and accidentally. You must avoid this, however, as doing so gets you an X. This also happens at the star location, which means that you have to get it from the back, using the ramp set up for it, but I don’t think it’s worth it when you get it from that direction.
One big plus of this track: the AI is good, which makes it challenging to beat. I don’t find it fun myself, though, because it is so extremely cramped and there are no places where you can just… race.
There’s a ramp at the start by which you can skip the tunnel part if you have a fast enough car, I like that. I don’t like however that the tunnel entrance is hard to see.
Some of Volt General’s later tracks were better, fortunately! At least this one doesn’t have glueing issues.
