Green J here, presenting to you Lava Circus, my first Re-Volt track I ever made from scratch!
Part of my "dream tracks" collection, this track contains a fusion of four things:
Comes with a time trial challenge time - and two versions of the track:
Changelog
You need RVGL 21.0930a-1 or later for the track to work properly.
Caution: It might be preferable to play the tournament version if you really think the tone of the main version is too grim for you.
Please excuse the amateur shading and distorted graphics on the road. I tried my best. In fact, everyone tries their best, and that's what track making is all about.
Feel free to comment here if you have any ideas on how to enhance the track.
I exactly don’t know why but I really like it. So simple yet pretty funny!
I’ll begin with the positive points: it has some good surprises including a story and camera nodes (I didn’t expected the latter in a first track). The AI isn’t bad: in a 10-lap race in Arcade mode with AMW against 15 Pro cars with no pickups, I have only finished 100m ahead the second car. Tip: look how the AI controls Toyeca and/or Purp XL when making AI Nodes, AI nodes are perfect when these cars can take any corner without losing control (which is very hard to achieve).
Things that can be improved: the raceline is entirely flat, maybe you could add some elevation changes in your next tracks. In my opinion there are too many pickups, but maybe that’s just me. The grid texture on most of the track is too blurry, as a result the pureblack from the translucent part is partially visible.
Detailed rating:
Raceline: 3 stars because I gave 4 stars to Toy World 2 (the stock track that resembles the most this one in terms of raceline, in my opinion), -1 for the track being entirely flat and too many pickups. It’s hard for me to rate this type of track because I like when there are either obstacles, alternate roads, jumps and/or areas that are drivable but not part of the track itself where a practise star could be hidden.
Visuals, design, atmosphere: 3 stars. If there was a polish rating like for cars, I would give 4 stars here and 3 in polish.
SFX, music, effects: 5 stars because this track has all of them, the music fits the atmosphere, there are several well made animations that add a lot to this track.
Overall fun: 3 stars, I personally prefer stock-likes and I can’t give this the same rating as some other tracks.
I hardly comment on tracksbut this year I might change with starting on this one. Although it does look amateur-ish in few areas, like the characters and not exactly on par for the course with the Re-Volt Lore theme or something like that…the fact you ahd a good track layout..surprisingly well done custom effects and animation, even as far a custom music track…
If this is your first track, mate, you’ve set the bar somewhat high starting with the new year of 2023. I’m genuinely surprised.
Very well done for a first track. The freaky atmosphere on this one is something to remember. Awesome job with the custom animations, the use of custom SFX, and especially the music track! Hope to see a different kind of raceline the next time, maybe, and some shading added. Good job, keep it up!
