This track is based on the video game Lotus III: The Ultimate Challenge, which is the third game in the Lotus racing series. I was quite interested when I saw this having been published, as I have played quite a bit of Lotus III. I had little idea of what to expect, though.
First off, when we start up the track, we see that it has terrible graphics. I’m not sure if I’ve seen any published track that has worse graphics, to be honest. The track is also fully Lego, and doesn’t even contain MAKEITGOOD editing.
However, the gameplay is actually really good. Lotus III is a very different kind of game, but it feels like the track layout fits the spirit of the game. There are no pipes or chicanes et cetera, but there are long straights, elevation changes, sharp corners and bridges. What makes the track extra fun to play are the different surface types, none of which are extreme. I find this track quite satisfying and varied to race. Good job!
For me one of the best things about Lotus III is the music. However, when you download the track off RVZ, it doesn’t have music. There was a Mega download including the music, but it’s now offline, and when I got it, the music didn’t even play in-game, even though the track was in the download. I’ve fixed this issue. However, the music track included is a 20-minute long soundtrack video for the game. It’s no wonder that it didn’t fit the RVZ file size limit… I also don’t think this was a good choice to begin with, because the music has a minute of build-up, which is a significant part of the race, if you’re racing 3 laps. I think it would really have been much better to use a single music track as the track’s music instead, and have it loop; the same it would be when playing the actual Lotus III game. So I made it like this in my installation.
All that said, I would say this is a track worth playing, just for the track layout! It’s a shame not more was done with it.
