NB: Needs dev mode (command line switch -dev).

Back in the pre-RVGL days, when RotoR flipped, the hood camera flipped along with it, providing a unique experience of racing while upside down. It was essentially a third track mode besides Reversed and Mirror racing, let’s call it Flipped racing. RVGL introduced the non-flipping camera, so the hidden mode of Flipped racing was lost. Now it’s restored, and expanded to also include the follow cam (as best as RVGL allows it).

Access the Flipped mode with the dev mode and RightShift-F11 cameras. The rear view cam is set to flipped hood cam (in RL parameters) or to flipped follow cam (in RC parameters). The car itself is edited to actually *not* flip around, so the Flipped mode is not broken. In case of a very unfortunate crash-and-flip event, make a tight circle and it flips right back (or just use the Flip or Repo buttons).

How to steer in Flipped racing:

    1) Visually, the track is turned around for you, so turn left when the curve goes right, and vice versa.

    2) Physically, you’ll soon notice that your old muscle memory still works. That’s because the track is still the same, just your visual is turned on its head.

    3) The brain clicks through soon enough and starts associating “mirrored” curves with unmirrored muscle memory.

    4) From there on, racing is as simple as it was before, just from a fresh perspective of running like on a ceiling :) (Just beware of confusion when accidentally flipping the right way around, as your brain has adapted in that sense, too.)

P.S. This brain adaptation ability is proven with scientific tests. Google “george stratton glasses experiment”.

P.P.S. If you want to transfer the Flipped Mode cameras to other cars, you can. Look at the Camera parameters, especially the RearLook and FixedOffset/FixedLook parameters.

Includes a custom engine sound from Baitang's collection.

Includes an RC and an RL version, set to RC by default.

(In this video, the car uses the petrol sound, just because I like it better this way. The uploaded car’s RC version is set to electric like the original.)

Credits: Acclaim for the game and for original RotoR, Citywalker for her experiments (got me into this business), me (obviously), and the lot of you for keeping the game alive. Thanks.

P.S. If anyone wonders - the RC/RL versioning actually makes a lot of sense. Tracks like Wildland, Cliff Mountain, Cliffside Court, Frigid Peaks, Extreme G, RC Dream, SS Route Revolt, etc are definitely not RC tracks.
