Quirky little car. Yes, I said little. Ha! Seriously though – it’s got a proper body, as wide as BigVolt and very flat. Front axle is completely hidden under the bodywork, so you’ll only see it when you flip. But I’m getting ahead of myself. The body is modeled pretty well, not a masterpiece but a fair piece of work. Same goes for bright and shiny textures.
Acceleration is there, but it’s not stellar by any means. This was balanced by a high top speed of 51 kph, and that’s nice enough to try and gain some time on straights. Cornering though is where Swish may surprise you. It doesn’t look like it, but its steering isn’t all that bad. Sure, it has understeer due to the way the wheels are set up, but at high speeds it behaves like it should – it turns how you want it and can manoeuvre around obstacles to some extent.
Well-designed rear suspension definitely has a major part in steering characteristic, providing good amount of flexibility on bumps. Dampers are also better than they seem when landing from high jumps – the car usually splats down, sticks and drives away. It’s not ideal though – the very same wheel arrangement that causes the understeer in corners makes Swish vulnerable to flipping when the battery pickup is active, and side impacts from traffic make it wobble around.
And it’d all be nice and well, if not for the bugs in physics. When hit with a firework, or punted in a specific way, the car can sometimes bug and fly violently in the air, or even out of bounds. Same goes for a weirdly bumpy behaviour in some impacts with environment, looking similar to Carmageddon’s Pinball Mode pickup. Those bugs make the car much less enjoyable. If they can ever be fixed, it’ll be a very nice and quirky car to drive in from time to time, just for fun.
Pros:
– Curious visuals
– Well-made suspension making the ride stable and less rigid than it may seem
– Not bad agility at high speeds, compared to dimensions
Cons:
– Bugged physics
– Becomes unstable when battery is active or is hit sideways
– Hard to get away from a wall if pushed towards it
