Downhill Jam
Standard Track Wednesday, 11th December 2024 |
The idea and the usage of nodes and reposition trigger to make the track always downhill on multiple laps it's pretty cool, but for how it's carried out placing several obstacles in the middle of the racing line it becomes an annoying driving experience, also cpu can't finish a lap ever because the nodes make them go straight into a long barrier with no way of getting around it and completing the lap. There are also a few flaws with graphics and whatnots.

Heavy Industries
Lego Track Monday, 9th December 2024 |
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions! I was unaware of camera shorten trigger existence and effect, I tried placing some around and even if I'm unsure about the result I'm glad I learned something new. I also tried to fix/improve all the rest that was mentioned, waterbox missed Y value and didn't produce any splash effect, it was only present in the big pool though. About the red X, there are 2 places in the original track and in this one where it's possible to confuse the game, one is at the former 3-fork and one is around the pool, I should have fixed both enough that it is now highly unlikely to get X'ed while driving correctly. One possible path from Tech Industries is not present in Heavy Industries, trying to make that shortcut will result in red X (the triggers have been changed to tell the player to go straight so following directions should be sufficient to remain on track on that specific section). Lastly, about the jump: jump_wall was not my intention for that obstacle because it could give too much advantage for a failed jump, instead the correct option after failing the shortcut jump and falling in the puddle of green water, is to turn left and go back to the main racing line, it's supposed to be a high risk-high reward shortcut (even though it's probably low reward to be honest) and can be taken only with Pro cars and a correct fast turn or with a Battery weapon used. Of course this was only clear to me (and ai, thanks to nodes) but not to the online player because it lacked information, now a direction trigger has been put in the puddle of water so that after a failed jump, the player gets information about what to do and doesn't try to reposition. I hope these improvements help the track!

The idea is pretty cool but there are some major flaws in my opinion around jumps and repositioning: it's easy to fall off the track accidentally and after the manual reposition (no trigger to speed up the process) in various spots the car will just roll out again due to the inclined mesh.

Istances are badly placed and you can bump into stuff while racing straight, this ruins the flow of the race. Some graphics aren't really good and there are issues with track zones/pos nodes because you can get X'ed if you take some corners too tight, this probably also happens to ai in some way because I saw some cars driving into walls only to be repositioned over and over and over. Some ideas about the racing line and environment are really good, so it's a shame the track as a whole does not deliver. There are several better offroad tracks.

The entire track concept revolves around force fields, sadly these are too strong for light cars and still annoying for heavy ones, they interfere with racing and aren't perfectly placed around jumps so you could go off track without a good reposition. Everything is so annoying and I didn't have fun, i got stuck before completing 1 lap. The idea is nice but carried out badly :/

Simple but effective. A keeper in my opinion if you like lego tracks. Be sure to race against faster cars than the one you choose, for a thougher challenge.

Ai are good and everything is well placed, except for the small bumps which are kinda annoying and also easily avoidable, a common design flaw in offroad kit tracks, the track itself is enyoable but not one of the best with this theme.

Very good to look at but in my opinion too hard to race against ai, I dont know if its the polygons or the track surface properties of how narrow the central path is, but with any kind of car i found it too hard to race smoothly and stay on course. Maybe i'm just bad at the game though, the ai is impressive like in most hilaire tracks.

I know the track isn't probably the best ever but several 1-2 stars review made me replay it to find flaws in it... I discovered it was packed incorrectly and several instances were missing making the track look really bad, know I understand the rating better. In an attempt to make a smaller folder i cut out too many files, now everything should be in place and the track looks like it should!

This is 100% a lego track, with clearly track editor pieces and the ugly blue walls. The idea to dress it with istances to make it seem a standard track is good and well carried out, but the textures are really bad and the flow isn't smooth at all.
