Heavy TOCA2 flashbacks here :) Great job - I never recognised how well Adeon is working for a Volvo-replica skin.
Spa-Volt 1
Standard Track Wednesday, 27th November 2024 |
6 years after its initial release, Spa-Volt 1 got updated to Version 1.4. :) The whole update is courtesy of EstebanMz. Changelog: - Added AI nodes and modified track zones at the fast path in a way that you can repo without spawning on the slow path (AI remains without attempting to take the fast path). - Repo nodes modified on several zones outside the racing line to change the approach you get back to the race line. - Tweaks to reposition boxes: extended the repo to the outside pool, now it covers both pools (normal mode) and the box below the chairs at the exit to the outside pool has been shrunk (reversed mode).

Glad you like the skin, Felix. It's also one of my favourite works. And yes, I used the USSR flag as a base. My plan was to make the cold-war counterpart of Patriot which use the United States flag as its main theme. You have to be careful with such jokes these days, but I think in this case it's OK. Especially as the skin already got released 6 years ago.
ToySoldierz 2024
Standard Track Friday, 31st May 2024 |
The original ToySoldierz is one of my favourite Re-Volt tracks since I first played it, so it will get really really hard for this remake - just to be warned in advance... ;) This is a remake where a lot of work was put into, but personally I prefer the original ToySoldierz track in nearly every aspect. To name a few things: + The tight race line of the original track was one of the things which made this track pretty unique and also very rewarding as soon you learned it. The new very wide raceline with very wide corners feels a bit too easy for my personal taste. I can feel a similarity to the Skating Toys remake here: The most interesting parts of the raceline were removed to make the track more straight-forward and beginner-friendly. + The old oncoming traffic section brought a lot of action and fun to the races, although I can absolutely understand why some people didn't liked this area - especially at multiplayer races. Same goes to the "drive through the containers"-section - I'm really sad this section was purged as well, as it brought some diversity. + The graphics at the remake are better at most areas from a technical perspective, but sadly they also feels a bit unpolished in general. For example the shadow below the camouflage net is missing compared to the original version. Also, there are a lot of graphical glitches visible, especially at the bushes (most seems to be caused by non-planar faces which were not triangulated properly). Another example is the ENV-shininess at the barbed wire, which affect the whole face but not only the barbed wire itself. Also: Maybe you can have another look at some shading-issues: An example is the very bright grass in the curvy section. Another area which could benefit from a better shading is the house with the green-gray floor. At the moment the steep areas has the same shading as the even areas, which make it hard for the eyes. Positive is the addition of object animations, although I'm no big fan of the toy parachutists. The tank and the rotating radars are very nice additions and bring some life to the track. What I also like is the new skybox. All in all I think there was no real need in remaking this track completely, but I think it's also nice for all the people who never liked the original track. Glad you also kept the old version public available, so everyone can decide according to their taste. :) Glad to see you're back, Skitch. Really looking forward for a maybe complete new track with a fresh scenario by you!?
Toys in the Hood 1: Shadows of Objects
Track Mod Wednesday, 15th May 2024 |
Great idea and very well executed! The overall "WOW"-effect after installing this mod is very subtle because the general amount of decoration (like trees, plants) is very low in Hood 1. But hey, it was 1999 ... RAM was expensive and CPU's was just about to hit the 1 GHz sonic wall :)

You finally released it, I can't believe it. After talking with you a lot about this track back in 2018 (?) I even got the chance to test some very-early WIP versions of this track, back then. Every now and then the track with it's very unique atmosphere popped in my mind in the last years. I can remember the crazy paintings and the gramophone tune - is it still included? I have to dig out my Re-Volt installation and test the track right away. I'm so happy to see it's released, finally. Thanks to all the people who helped you releasing this track.

Thanks for the error report. I've uploaded a corrected version which should work now also on Linux without any issues.

In general I'm not that big fan of chibi styled cars, so I did not put that much attention to your SD02 releases so far. But this one made me really curious. What a crazy idea to build an audio system / CD player in a RC-car! Respect for this idea. The execution is fantastic. I adore the small details like the digital display, the cinch in/outputs, the honk, and - for sure - the rotating Re-Volt CD's. Just awesome. Can't say much about the car itself tho, but who cares when having the chance to drive a fuggin' ghettoblaster round' da hood! :)
Thru The Sylve: The Tracks
Standard Track Sunday, 10th September 2023 |
This are some really nice PRM kit tracks. I was kind of surprised of the overall very good quality! Great job Ced and rodik. My personal favourites are "Autumn" and "Summer again", which both have a really awesome atmosphere. Autumn has a really cool raceline - but all the tracks have, to be honest. Same as Keyran I like the dense vegetation. This is something I also try to achieve on my own tracks, and you did an awesome job here. Really cool are the areas, where you drive through these big stones. The glowing in the "Summer again" tracks together with the "hayballs" (you tried to mimic fireflies here?) and the steaming pile of leaves (?) give this tracks a very artistic and extraterrestrial feeling, which I really adore. But there are also some things which I didn't liked that much. All the tracks has too much SFX for my flavour - I never heard so many different animals in a forest like here! :) In addition, the SFX does not really fit the seasons, sometimes. Especially in "Winter" the lot of bird voices feels a bit immersion breaking. In general, I didn't get the "season feeling" at all the tracks. "Autumn" feels more like late-summer, "Spring" not like spring, and at "Winter" the visible grass is also not that fitting, in my opinion. But this are only some minor nitpicks. Overall these are some great tracks, and I have a lot of fun with them!
Dust Mite LS
Rookie Car Sunday, 10th September 2023 |
This is nothing else than perfection. While driving this little fella for the first time I got this strange warm feeling somewhere close to my heart, which you don't get that often. This version looks like Dust Mite always should have looked like. It does not have the typical stock Re-Volt style (there are all these nice little details - the wheels are awesome!), but in this case I don't care at all. Beside the great optics I didn't drove a car with a more realistic RC-car feeling in a long time. 5++.
